On Monday 16th, the day after racing in Houffalize, Ed and I caught up with Solestar founders Oliver and Sebastian in Cologne Germany. In the few years since their development, the Solestar Insoles have certainly become popular throughout Europe, Canada and Australia. These cycle specific carbon insoles are now used by many of the pro riders across road, track and mountain bike disciplines.
Cologne is quite a beautiful city with lush forests along the outskirts, then parkland and cycle tracks weaving in and around the historic buildings. We found the modest shop front of Solestar within the city centre and on arrival Oliver took time out to show us around. Both Oliver and Sebastian still enjoy the hands-on work of fitting up the riders themselves and are flat-out with appointments all day long. Oliver also takes on the job of travelling the globe educating all the dealers on the ins and outs of Solestar and any changes to the ever-progressing technology. Their Cologne practice is equipped with foot force-plate and SRM ergo technology to get the most accurate insole support for the best possible power output.
Oliver kindly took us out for lunch to a nice Italian place just up the road and then onto a cool little coffee shop to get our much needed fix of caffeine!
So thanks very much Oliver and Sebastian for taking time-out of your busy schedules. The stop off to Cologne was well worth it!
