The following fitness tests are available through Pedallab. Contact Jen at jen@pedallab.com or 0431371622, for further information or to make an appointment.
MAXIMAL AEROBIC POWER (MAP) TEST
The Maximal Aerobic Power test involves riding at increasingly harder efforts (higher powers) until exhaustion. A power meter is used to determine your average power for the final minute of the test and this is your MAP result.
MAP testing is an accurate way to measure personal fitness improvements and allows for accurate set-up of training zones (power and/or heart rate).
POWER PROFILE (PP) TEST
The Power Profile test involves measuring your average powers for given time periods. A ‘power-profile’ can then be created showing your strengths and weaknesses. Generally the time periods measured include 4-5min, 1min and 5-10sec therefore reflecting your Aerobic, Anaerobic and Neuromuscular capacities.
PP Testing is very useful for determining the type of rider you are and potentially where you need most work to become a better rider!
FUNCTIONAL THRESHOLD POWER (FTP) TEST
The functional Threshold Power test involves riding a time trial effort, generally around 20min in length, holding as high power / speed as possible for this length of time. Your FTP can then be calculated as your average power for this 20min TT effort minus 5%. We minus the 5% as FTP is defined as the highest power you can average for 60min.
FTP is most crucial for performance in cycling. Basically the higher your FTP the faster you will be able to go for longer periods of time (without “blowing”). Importantly, this component of fitness is also the most trainable and once your starting value is determined, an appropriate training program can be created to lift FTP to new heights!
